Five Reasons Why Breathing Exercises are Important
Nourish Mantra
A healthy mind has an easy breath. Yoga enthusiasts all over the world have stressed the importance of mindful breathing practices. Their practice encourages one to apply the same while meditating, all for one reason- breathing improves the quality of life tremendously. Unfortunately, we often overlook the importance of mindful breathing as we immerse ourselves in daily chores and errands. Health and wellness through simple techniques take a back seat very often.
To unwind ourselves from everyday stress and pressures, we often look forward to a good spa treatment using ayurvedic skincare products such as a natural face cleanser followed by a natural face mask, but one may not always find the time for it.
In such cases or otherwise, it is an excellent practice to incorporate breathing exercises into your daily health, beauty, and wellness routine. Here’s why-
- Reduces stress and anxiety
Breathing exercises require you to be mindful of your breathing. When you focus all your attention on the inhalation and exhalation process, you tend to unwind your stress. This is also why when one has an episode of an anxiety attack, they are asked to take deep breaths and focus on their breathing.
- Improves oxygen supply
Breathing exercises improve your lung capacity and hence the oxygen levels in your mind and body. Increased oxygen supply means better health and improved brain activity. Also, enhanced cardiovascular health means fewer chances of a heart stroke and better heart performance.
- Improves concentration
Increased oxygen levels also mean increased blood supply to the brain. This helps significantly in improving your concentration. When you can concentrate better on a task, you tend to perform it more effectively.
- Helps in better sleep
Like mentioned earlier, breathing exercises help in dealing with stress and anxiety. A direct effect of the same is reflected in your sleeping patterns. A good night’s sleep is extremely important to maintain overall health. In addition, an improved sleep cycle means better performance in day-to-day activities.
- Improves skin texture
Regular breathing exercises increase the blood flow in the body. This, in turn, helps detoxify the body as all the impurities are regularly flushed out. Impurities in the blood are one of the major causes of acne on the face. Stress is yet another cause of skin breakouts that can be managed through breathing exercises. Lastly, improved blood flow helps your skin stay healthy and glow naturally.
One of the significant advantages of breathing exercises is that they can be performed anywhere, anytime. For a quick routine, you can close your eyes, place your palm on your belly and take a deep breath in. Hold it for a count of ten, after which you slowly exhale to the count of thirteen. Do this 10-15 in a day or as and when you remember. A useful tip that helps you remember is to place a poster or a card that reads “breathe” in places that you commonly look at, such as your work desk, fridge door, etc.
